Contact and corrections

We would rather be corrected than be wrong. Danny Rasul is the publisher responsible for this website. Send corrections, permissions or privacy enquiries through the private form below.

Corrections

If you have found a factual error, a misattributed source, a better piece of scholarship or a spelling that a community prefers, please tell us. It helps enormously if you include:

  • the page and the exact claim,
  • what you believe the correct position is,
  • and a source we can check, if you have one.

Substantive corrections are made to the article, noted on it, and reflected in its updated date. Minor typographic fixes are made silently.

Send a private message

Include the claim, proposed correction and a source where possible. Avoid sensitive information or children’s details. Messages are stored privately for publisher review, not published or sent to a mailing list. We do not promise a reply deadline. How enquiry data is handled.

A public email address is not listed until its inbound delivery has been verified. The form is a private website queue, not a claim that an email has been delivered.

Other enquiries

  • Permissions. Short quotations with a link are welcome. For longer reuse, ask first.
  • Images and archives. If you hold rights to photographs, manuscripts or artefact images relevant to this subject and would consider licensing them, we would like to hear from you: every image we publish carries a caption and a visible credit.
  • Scholars. If we have summarised your work inaccurately, tell us and we will fix it.
  • Community organisations. If your community’s preferred names, spellings or emphases differ from what we have published, we want to know.

What we cannot do

We cannot trace individual family ancestry, authenticate objects, translate documents, or verify DNA test results. We are a publication, not a research service — and for the ancestry question in particular, our article on origins explains why genetic testing cannot answer the question people usually mean.

We do not operate a newsletter, and we do not display sign-up forms that go nowhere. If a mailing list is ever launched, it will be a real one.
